The University of Miami Libraries is pleased to announce the launch of the newly revised University of Miami Libraries Digital Collections website. The refreshed design includes enhanced zoom and resizing tools; sharing feature; re-organized introductory collection landing and browsing pages; and an easy-to use search and refine interface.
The digital repository includes over 70 digital collections with over 50,000 items that contain cross-searchable materials. These rich, searchable collections include sheet music, photographs, media, manuscripts, correspondence, interviews, books, periodicals and other textual materials. Many of these collections have substantial materials covering events and history within South Florida, Cuba, and the Caribbean.
Direct access to collection resources is found on the Library’s homepage. Access to the collections, as well as descriptions, finding aids, exhibits and associated resources are found on the collection ‘landing pages.’ From the landing pages you may go directly to the digital materials by clicking “Browse All” in the navigation menu or the title of the collection.

University of Miami Libraries Announces Launch of New Website
The University of Miami Libraries is proud to announce the completion of its redesigned website. With the re-engineered navigation menus, visitors will be able to navigate the site more easily, utilize enhanced search tools, access social media, and connect quickly to library news and events. The revamp of the site follows an extensive Beta period where students and faculty were asked for feedback regarding functionality and ease of use. The new site takes into consideration those comments and is designed with a fresh, friendly interface for an improved user experience.
The current site will remain in place through the spring semester, but a link on that site will allow visitors to familiarize themselves with the new site. Following this introductory period, the new site will replace the current site in May 2012.
We’ve heard you! In March, the Libraries launched Beta 1.0, a major web site redesign. We then asked for your feedback and conducted additional user testing to gather more information. In response to your feedback, we are making substantial improvements to the Beta 1.0 site over the course of the Fall 2011 semester.
During the fall semester the current Beta 1.0 site will remain available but will be replaced in mid-November with an upgraded Beta 2.0 site. We plan to permanently switch to the new design during the Winter Break.
General Fall Timeline:
- Revise information architecture options; review & test
- Refine look and feel: layout, colors, typography
- Develop graphics, obtain images
- Content creators update content in Beta 2.0
- Conduct usability testing. Gather general feedback
- Make Beta 2.0 available to public (at beta.library.miami.edu)
- Continue usability testing. Gather general feedback
- Launch Beta 2.0 as current site at library.miami.edu
The University of Miami Libraries is pleased to announce the launch of the beta library web site [http://beta.library.miami.edu ] and catalog [http://ibisweb.miami.edu:2082].
The new sites are the result of usability testing, focus groups, faculty interviews, and user surveys. The beta library site features more prominent search options providing quick, convenient access to core library information. Other features include quick links to frequently used services and resources, audience level pages to easily access library information important to students, faculty, and visitors, and a fresh new look. The new catalog includes the ability to send a text from within a record as well view Google Book Previews of titles where available.
Both the beta library site and beta catalog will run in parallel with the current sites to give everyone a chance to familiarize themselves with the new organization and provide feedback for improvements. Users can switch back and forth via links to and from the beta sites in the upper banner.
