Librarians, Information Specialists, and student assistants in the Education and Outreach unit are responsible for supporting the teaching and research mission of the university by providing reference services to all library visitors. We help library patrons find information, select sources for research, design search strategies, and navigate a wide array of electronic, print, and special-format resources. We also assist patrons in evaluating and using information resources, and we provide technical support for patrons’ computing needs in the library.

Where to get immediate help:Reference service is available on a walk-in basis at the information and research assistance desk on the 1st floor of Otto G. Richter Library. Patrons can also contact librarians via IM, email, and phone.

Research consultations: In-depth research assistance is provided through an appointment-based consultation with a subject specialist librarian.

Online tutorials: View short videos to learn how to use the library website and certain e-resources, like the library catalog and databases.

Online subject guides: Explore our subject guides compiled by your friendly librarians at the University of Miami!
