The University of Miami Libraries seeks nominations and applications for an innovative Librarian in the Education and Outreach department of the Otto G. Richter Library.  The Education and Outreach Librarian act as liaison and subject specialist for departments primarily in the Social Sciences, such as Africana Studies, Psychology, Education, and Sociology. The Librarian specializes in information literacy, outreach, collection development, departmental liaison activities, and information, technology and research assistance for the University community in assigned subjects and areas of responsibility.

THE LIBRARY: The University of Miami Libraries (www.library.miami.edu) rank among the top 50 research libraries in North America with a collection of over 3 million volumes, 74,000 current serials, and over 64,000 E-journal titles. The Otto G. Richter Library lies in the heart of the Coral Gables campus and serves as the central library for the University. Other University of Miami libraries include the Paul Buisson Architecture Library, the Judi Prokop Newman Business Information Resource Center, the Marta & Austin Weeks Music Library, and the Marine and Atmospheric Science Library. The campus also has independent medical and law libraries. The Libraries provide support and services for approximately 10,100 undergraduates, 5,100 graduate students, and 10,000 full and part time faculty and staff. The Libraries have a staff of 37 Librarians and 86 support staff and are a member of ARL, ASERL, CLIR, NERL, OCLC Research Library Partnership, and Lyrasis.

POSITION: Reporting to the Head of Education and Outreach, the Education and Outreach Librarian develops outreach activities to promote library programming, resources and services; develops resources and implements workshops and sessions in real and virtual environments to provide multiple opportunities for teaching critical information literacy skills and library resources. Works collaboratively with library faculty and staff to develop, provide and evaluate information, technology, research, and instruction assistance geared towards faculty and the interests and learning styles of today’s students.  Scheduled hours may include evenings and weekends. Selects, assesses, and manages collections and resources in designated subject areas; participates as a departmental liaison for faculty and students in designated departments to meet the expectations of the faculty and students; and promotes services and resources of the University of Miami Libraries.  Monitors budgets and makes collections decisions to support the teaching, learning, and research needs of the University community. Keeps abreast of relevant literature and research for current awareness of trends, developments, and best practices in librarianship, information technology, instructional technology, and scholarly communication, with particular emphasis on information and reference service, information literacy and instruction, collection development, and assigned subjects and disciplines.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Master’s degree from an ALA accredited program or foreign equivalent. Education background in a social science subject is preferred. Minimum of one year academic library work experience providing reference, instruction and/or collection development, preferably in the social sciences. The ability to work independently and in teams in a dynamic changing environment; excellent organizational and time management skills; ability to work effectively with a culturally diverse population; a commitment to the importance of excellence in teaching and scholarship; the ability to work collaboratively and effectively with staff, faculty, and University administration; strong commitment to professional development; commitment to user-centered library service and the promotion of information literacy; skill in developing, organizing, and maintaining web-based information resources; ability to positively represent and promote the interests of the Libraries in the community.

SALARY AND BENEFITS: Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. This is a non-tenure track faculty appointment at the Librarian Assistant/Associate Professor rank.
