Access Privileges

The Marta and Austin Weeks Music Library is open to anyone who wishes to visit our facility. Patrons who are not members of the University of Miami community may use printed music materials within the building. Some of our computers do not require login and are therefore available for any patrons to use for on-campus access to databases and other online library resources. Remote access to databases and other online library resources is restricted to members of the University of Miami community. Priority for all materials, resources, equipment, and rooms at Weeks Library is given to Frost School of Music students and faculty, followed by other members of the University of Miami community.

***Friends of the Library/ Amigos

Members of the Friends of the Library and members of the Amigos of the Cuban Heritage Collection who join at the “Sustaining” level or higher are entitled to borrowing privileges at the University of Miami Libraries.  Ten books or scores and three videotapes, DVDs, or CDs may be checked out at a time. Items can be renewed once and are subject to recall. Friends and Amigos may not use interlibrary loan services or materials on reserve, nor is remote access to subscription databases available. Anyone is eligible to become a Friend of the Library or Amigo of the Cuban Heritage Collection with fee payment. Membership may be obtained at Richter Library.

Borrowing Policies

Holds

A limit of 3 CDs or DVDs may be placed on hold at a time. Items will be held for two weeks before they are returned to circulation. To make other hold arrangements, please contact the circulation staff at Weeks Music Library.

Renewals and Recalls

Patrons may renew scores twice. To renew a score more than twice please contact the circulation staff at Weeks Music Library.

Recalled items are subject to immediate return.

Fines

  • Scores and books: $0.25/day
  • CDs and DVDs: $1.00/day
  • Library Use Item: $1.00/hour
  • Recall: $2.00/day

Students who borrow scores with parts are responsible for returning the complete set.  If a part is not returned, the borrower will receive an email asking him or her to check again for the missing item(s).  If the borrower cannot find the part or does not respond to the email he or she will be charged $5.00 per part.
