Food and Drink Policy
Purpose
This policy ensures that the University of Miami Libraries an inviting and comfortable place for study and research, while maximizing the continued value of the library’s collections, equipment, and furnishings.
Scope
Richter Library, Business Library, Rosenstiel School Library, Calder Medical Library, Marta & Austin Weeks Music Library, Architecture Research Center
Policy Description
In the following facilities, the University of Miami Libraries allows covered drinks, but no food is allowed in the facility.
- Architecture Research Center (1st floor)
- Business Library
- Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Science Library
- Marta and Austin Weeks Music Library
In the following facilities, library users are allowed limited access to food and drink with these guidelines. During Covid-19 restrictions, patrons must eat alone, as appropriate social distancing is difficult to enforce. Please avoid foods that might be disruptive or create an unpleasant experience for others (e.g., foods that are strong-smelling or that generate noise from its packaging). Please alert Library staff to any spills so that the area can be cleaned promptly.
- Richter Library (in spaces not near computer stations)
- Calder Medical Library (individual study rooms when alone)
Some library locations have unique or at-risk resources requiring additional food and drink restrictions. No food and drink are allowed in the following areas:
- Cuban Heritage Collection Reading Room
- Kislak Center (before 4pm on weekdays)
- Kislak Gallery
- Architecture Research Center (2nd floor)
- Calder Medical Library (public spaces)
