The Collaborative Archive from the African Diaspora (CAAD)

The Collaborative Archive from the African Diaspora (CAAD) was a project active from 2010 to 2013 to create an online portal to the collective documentation of Black history and culture in South Florida. CAAD materials were derived from South Florida archives, libraries, and cultural heritage institutions dedicated to the preservation, accessibility, and development of resources such as manuscripts, oral histories, images, books, archives, maps, film, scrapbooks, posters, and other ephemera in a variety of formats. The CAAD project included the creation of a web page that provided a single access point to Florida member institutions with African and African diaspora collections and the means to further map these narratives across the historical landscape of the southern United States.

Although content is no longer being added to the portal, the CAAD partners are exploring new collaborative ventures and are tracking the IMLS-funded project to build a National Finding Aid Network (NAFAN). We invite you to explore the archived CAAD project on the Internet Archive and to visit the CAAD partner institutional websites to explore new content, collections, and current initiatives.
