Research Data & Open Scholarship

The Research Data & Open Scholarship Department of the University of Miami Libraries, within the Digital Strategies & Scholarly Communication division, coordinates and advances services in the areas of data and GIS services, open science, open access, research impact and visibility, research information management, research data management, and scholarly publishing. Our department is comprised of two collaborative teams: Data & Visualization Services and Research Analytics & Impact Services. We provide assistance throughout the research and analytical process and assist with requests involving Scholarship@Miami, UM’s research information management system. In addition, we provide consultations, workshops, and training resources.

Data & Visualization Services

The Data & Visualization Services team develops, supports, and manages services in support of teaching, learning, and research at the University of Miami. We offer Biomedical Data Services, GIS Services, facilitating research by providing assistance for patrons across campuses on topics including teaching research software and methods (e.g., ArcGIS Pro, R, Python, SPSS, NVivo), best practices in open data and data visualization, and research data management. In addition, we manage the Digital Scholars’ Lab, a computing space for specialized research software, keeping current software needs for data- and GIS-related computing, and coordinating workshops offered each semester.

Research Analytics & Impact Services

The Research Analytics & Impact Services (RAIS) team develops, supports, and advances library services for scholarly identity management, research visibility, research impact, scholarly output, and research citation metrics. We provide consultative services and other instructional programs to researchers related to scholarly visibility and impact metrics. The RAIS team can also generate reports to meet bibliometrics and research impact requests from campus administrators and academic units. The Research Visibility Guide provides essential information on key terms, subject matters and guidance on research visibility and scholarly communication.
