Technical Services
What we do
The Technical Services department creates and maintains content used by the Library’s online catalog and numerous searching and delivery tools for all collections. We keep the collections vital and current by licensing and purchasing new materials, as well as describing and organizing them for convenient use. We also support resource description access to special collections, rare, and archival materials, making these unique resources available for scholars worldwide.
Working collegially with other Library units, we define policies and practices that assure responsive and timely access to the Library’s rich and varied collections of print and digital materials. Further, we make the University of Miami collections known to students, scholars and researchers all over the world by contributing our online catalog records to the OCLC bibliographic database.
Licensing, managing, and troubleshooting access to the Library’s ever-expanding collection of e-resources is a technical services growth area.
Technical Services consists of the divisions of Acquisitions, Interdisciplinary Collections Cataloging, Digital & Distinctive Collections Cataloging, and Assessment. Technical Services is a department within the Libraries’ Access and Discovery Services Division and is located on the third floor of the Richter Library.
